How to Convert Word to PDF and Back
Whether you need to turn a Word document into a PDF for sharing, or get an editable Word file back out of a PDF, here's how to do it in your browser, without installing anything.
Open the Word ↔ PDF tool
Go to the Word ↔ PDF page. No account, no software to install.
Add your file
Drag and drop a .docx or a .pdf file onto the page — the tool automatically detects which direction you need: Word to PDF, or PDF to Word.
Convert and download
Click “Download”. The converted file is produced directly in your browser.
Frequently asked questions
- Will my Word document look identical once converted to PDF?
- It's a best-effort conversion: most everyday formatting comes through well, but very complex layouts, tables and images may not carry over perfectly.
- Is the text selectable in the PDF produced from a Word document?
- No — Word to PDF works by rendering the document visually and capturing that rendering as the PDF's pages, rather than a true vector export. This means the resulting PDF's text isn't selectable or searchable, even though it looks correct.
- Does PDF to Word work on a scanned document?
- It extracts and reconstructs structure from a PDF's existing text layer. A scanned page has no text layer at all — just an image — so it produces an empty section in the resulting .docx for that page. No OCR (text recognition from the image) is performed.
- Are headings, bold text, lists and tables preserved when converting PDF to Word?
- Yes, for a PDF with a real text layer: headings, bold/italic formatting, bullet lists and simple tables are reconstructed into proper Word structures, not just plain text.
